Jenny’s finally coming to OUR block. American superstar singer and actress, Jennifer Lopez, will perform in concert in KL for the very first time at 8pm on 2 December. Part of her ‘Dance Again World Tour 2012’, the show will set Stadium Merdeka ablaze, and will be a magnificent entertainment cap to an already-unforgettable 2012.
It’s hard to believe, but ‘Dance Again World Tour 2012’ is Lopez’s first-ever headlining concert tour (previous plans were scrapped numerous times). Kicking off in Panama City on 14 June, the show has taken Lopez across Latin America and Brazil, and is now propelling her towards anxious fans in Asia, who have long awaited her arrival.
Named after Lopez’s recently-released greatest hits album, ‘Dance Again…The Hits” (which showcases her current chart-topper, ‘Dance Again’), the concert’s set-list includes Billboard smashes such as “Jenny from the Block”, “Love Don’t Cost a Thing” and “Waiting for Tonight”, as well as several Spanish tracks.
The Latina glamour goddess is expected to dazzle with her inimitable showmanship – the concert, divided into four thematic parts, features numerous sensational costumes and extravagant props. Fans can also look forward to choreography and dance numbers that put other artistes to shame (Lopez is, after all, a professionally-trained dancer, with a specialty in hip-hop, flamenco and ballet moves, as well as Latin pop-influenced dance styles).
In fact, dancing was how Lopez – also known as J.Lo – began her career. As an ambitious youngster, she worked as a backup singer for New Kids on the Block, and on the popular, early-90s sketch comedy, In Living Colour – before crossing paths with Janet Jackson, with whom she collaborated on several projects. Lopez then switched gears by pursuing film roles – and made her big break playing slain Tejano singer, Selena, in a titular biopic. This was followed by appearances and starring roles in numerous films.
While burning up the big screen, Lopez also danced her way into the recording studio – and first exploded onto the international music stage in 1999, with the release of her debut album, ‘On the 6’, which spawned the best-selling single, ‘If You Had My Love’. J.Lo has since released 5 more albums and sold a staggering 70 million records worldwide, in addition to breaking records (Lopez’s 2002 remix album,”J to tha L-O! The Remixes” became the first in history to debut atop the U.S. Billboard 200).
In 2001, she also became the first artiste in history to have a number one film (“The Wedding Planner”) and album (“J.Lo”) in the same week. It’s no wonder that the Bronx-born Puerto Rican is considered one of the most influential Hispanics in the world, worth a jaw-dropping US$150 million. Her recent stint as American Idol judge only served to cement her reputation as an entertainment bigwig.
A superstar among superstars, Lopez’s arrival in KL is certainly something to look forward to, and her concert will undoubtedly be an evening of fistpumping, foot-tapping exhilaration. Don’t expect to spend more than a few seconds quietly seated!
