As one of the oldest performing arts in the world, magic has always had the ability to baffle, amaze, inspire and occasionally even scare those who witness it. Whether it’s simple close-up trickery or an elaborate illusion, if it’s executed with precision, it’s guaranteed a big reaction. One that we’re sure the Water Torture Escape & Live International Magic Show at the StarExpo Centre this month will elicit.
The Great Escape
Headlining the event and conjuring up his most daring stunt to date is Malaysian magician A. Vickneswaran a.k.a. Vikey. Winner of the prestigious Merlin Award – the highest award given internationally in the field of magic – he has amassed a stellar reputation by perfecting everything from street magic and fire shows to escaping padlocked from a coffin nailed shut and buried six feet deep.
In his latest daredevil move, Vikey takes on one of Houdini’s most famous and dangerous tricks, the Chinese Water Torture Cell. With his feet shackled to the lid, he’ll be submerged head first into a water-filled tank and sealed in, at which point he’ll have two minutes to make his escape. Few have tried it since Houdini first debuted it in 1911. Vikey will be the first Malaysian to do so.
Joining Vikey on the evening and casting spells of their own over the audience will be scores of magicians from around the world including Filipino Jeffrey Tam, whose comedic talents combine seamlessly with close-up magic for gut-busting results.
Also set to appear are French duo Kenris and Aurelia, whose theatrical stage shows have left audiences breathless for over two decades. More visual comedy and ‘cinemagic’ come from Italian couple Disguido and Isabela, while popular Thai illusionist, Mamada, stops by to unleash his brand of sorcery. These masters of magic plus many more are sure to leave audiences awestruck.
