A man who practises what he preaches, Jason Mraz has been spreading his message of love through song for almost two decades now. He sees music as the perfect medium to circulate positivity and transform bad thoughts, not unlike affirmations in meditation. Each of his six albums to date have been built on that philosophy, and that has resonated with millions and earned him a few Grammys along the way.
This month his Good Vibes tour brings him to Malaysia for the third time in his career, where he’s ready to deliver his wholesome, acoustic, folk-pop goodness to the Axiata Arena.
The Bright Side
A good chunk of his set list will consist of songs from Know, his latest album released in August last year and the follow up to 2014’s Yes. Both albums, which feature indie-rock-folk band Raining Jane, radiate with goodness and light, enough illuminate even the darkest of places.
Each track transports you to a better place almost instantly, be it the lead single Have It All, inspired by a Buddhist greeting he received in Myanmar, or the album’s outro of Love Is Still The Answer.
From being a raw-diet vegan (with the occasional vegetable soup), and owning a 5-acre organic avocado farm, to being a social activist for a wide range of issues including human rights and the environment, Mraz has dedicated his life to bettering both himself and the world around him. The Jason Mraz Foundation has donated more than USD1 million to a wide range of charities and has recently started song writing workshops hosted by Mraz himself.
We could all take a leaf from his book and bring more joy into the world. Meanwhile, you can feed of his positivity and catch him live in the middle of this month. He’s yours (albeit on stage!) for one special night only.
