23 July 2019: The Little Blue Champion campaign highlights the blueberries’ health benefits for all
The US Highbush Blueberry Council recently launched The Little Blue Champion campaign at Village Grocer in MyTown Cheras.
The campaign aims to highlight the advantages of eating blueberries for people of various ages, shedding light on the many nutrients and antioxidants contained in the superfood.
Health benefits of the fruit include an array of vitamins; each cup of blueberries provides 25% of our daily vitamin C needs, 5% of vitamin B6 and 36% of vitamin K.
Blueberries have also been known to fight heart disease, cancer, brain aging, lowering of cholesterol levels and prevent DNA damage which reduces the risk of cancer.
“The blueberry is a very hard-working berry and truly a little champion when it comes to food that is good for you. For those leading an active lifestyle, it’s a great snack that keeps you feeling full and satiated, reduces inflammation and lowers blood pressure. It also has only 80 calories per cup, virtually no fat and is low in sodium,” said Malaysian fitness icon and health advocate Linora Low who took lead on the campaign.
She also shared two recipes incorporating blueberries to the audience which are the Blueberry Milk and the Cauliflower Blueberry Muffin.
