July 19 2017: Popular local animated twins, Upin and Ipin, have been appointed as Malaysian Tourism Ambassadors at an Open House event organised by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture Malaysia (MOTAC).
With a massive following consisting mainly of youngsters, the Upin and Ipin TV series never fails to entertain while capturing the elements of Malaysian culture. This collaboration between MOTAC and Les’ Copaque Production, the creators and intellectual property owners of Upin and Ipin, was done in part to promote the arts and culture of Malaysia.
Set in a quaint Malaysian village, Upin, Ipin and their friends are often seen playing traditional games such as konda-kondi, galah panjang and sepak takraw. Also featured on the TV series is a variety of performing arts and foods that are identifying aspects of Malaysian tradition.
The captivating twins are loved not just by Malaysians, but are also adored in neighbouring Southeast Asian countries such as Singapore and Indonesia. It is no surprise then that their videos have garnered over a billion views with a million subscribers on their Youtube channel. Add to this numerous local and international awards, and it is easy to see why they have become Malaysian entertainment icons that will live up to their roles as Malaysian Tourism Ambassadors.
