With Valentine’s Day in the vicinity, a flurry of thoughtful gifts, bouquet arrangements, chocolate boxes, dinner reservations and other passionate gestures make their way around this month, kindling relationships and conjuring heartfelt smiles. There are simply loads of quintessential Valentine’s pursuits a couple can do to mark this special occasion.
One thing that they can add to their itinerary is perhaps one of the most fun on it as well – capping off the day by heading to a tantalising nightlife spot! It’s a superb way to let loose and unwind together with a special someone – KL is your oyster when it comes to finding places like this, and we have lined up a few for your consideration.
From the Marini’s Group comes Marimbar, a fresh rooftop bar which is among the highest in the Petaling Jaya district. Its name is a smooth blend of three words: Marini, rimba (Malay for ‘jungle’), and bar, and all three components are accounted for. There’s Marini’s renowned Italian fare, tropical themes throughout, and a great collection of alcohol and music.
An end-to-end indoor glass wall along the indoor space and two terraces of different sizes, which are lined by high glass railings, afford terrific, uninterrupted views of PJ and beyond.

The Iron Fairies
The largest example of an international chain by Australian creative Ashley Sutton, The Iron Fairies KL in TREC certainly does its fairy-tale premise justice, for it’s a detail-rich, intriguing rabbit hole into the ex-miner’s famed fantasy books.
With every flick of the eye, there’s something to admire, whether iron mythical creatures populating the spellbinding Fairy Dust Factory, or 50,000 floating beauties in the ethereal Butterfly Room. Even more Sutton specials are in the works, sure to be embellished, as these two distinct sections are, with fantastic nosh, beverages and DJ music.

Perched on the roof of Bangsar Village is Mantra Bar & Lounge. With a view that encompasses the iconic KL landmarks and city skyline, the location is effectively the first rooftop bar in the neighbourhood. Modern designs define the cosy interior with plenty of intimate alcoves, as well as seating areas featuring large day beds on the balcony.
Drawing inspiration from his years abroad in the United States, founder Jing Ng and partner Warren Saw conceived Mantra as a casual place for one to drop by and unwind without pretension.

The Locker & Loft
Even after scaling the correct stairwell, it takes some sleuthing to suss out the entrance to this bar; the clue is right in the door itself. Once in, the décor takes full credit for your attention with its riveting copper distillery concept – that is until the clever cocktails steal your focus away.
Priding themselves on their fun outlook on cocktails, the bar even gives guests a shot at mixing their own, with the best ones making it to the menu. There’s also a full food menu starring fusion items to sift through.

Coley Cocktail Bar
No stranger to the Bar Awards, even being named the Best Cocktail Bar in 2017, Coley has never forgotten its humble roots as an unassertive neighbourhood bar and doesn’t strive to stand out, to the eye at least. Despite moving to larger premises, it can be easily missed by passers-by.
Drawing inspiration from the late bartender extraordinaire Ada Coleman, the team behind Coley lets the cocktail, or ‘koktel’ as they call it, do the talking instead. Infused with plenty of creativity, the drinks here are born of locally sourced traditional ingredients.
