Bibliophiles are in for a treat as Taiwan’s Eslite Spectrum is set to touch down at The Starhill in 2022. This will be the renowned bookstore and cultural creative centre’s first flagship in Southeast Asia, clocking in at a massive 70,000 square feet and featuring a range of exclusive retail, lifestyle and cultural attractions.
Chosen by Time Magazine and CNN as ‘Asia’s Best Bookstore’ and ‘World’s Coolest Bookstore’ respectively, Eslite Spectrum is set to redefine the Malaysian mall experience by showcasing Taiwan’s vibrant energy. Complementing the vast library of books will be music, design, hand-made goods, performing arts, restaurants and coffee shops, making it one of the new focal points of the bustling Bukit Bintang district.
“With Eslite Spectrum taking pride of place as the anchor tenant, we are realising our vision of anchoring a lifestyle library as the heart of the Home of the Tastemakers where patrons can meet, gather and connect over shared interests in a new collective living space,” said Vice President of YTL Land & Development Bhd Joseph Yeoh at the tenancy agreement ceremony.
“We cannot be more excited to witness its opening which will truly complement the distinctive experience of The Starhill that focuses on differentiated retail experiences, embodied by one-of-a-kind concepts by exclusive brands in Kuala Lumpur,” he added.
Eslite Spectrum will take over the entire first floor of the mall, along with an F&B outlet on the Ground Level next to the brand new piazza – an essential part of the mall’s rebranding and facelift exercise that is set to finish in 2021. A sweeping café terrace will also sit on the first floor and offer the perfect spot for patrons to watch the creative events and programmes going on below.
Present at the tenancy agreement was Chairperson of Eslite Group Mercy Wu who spoke about the goal of making the new flagship branch a platform for cross-regional dialogue between writers from Malaysia and Taiwan, incorporating elements from both cultures to spur creativity.
“Our core values lie in the desire of ‘integrating the humanities, arts and creativity into life,’ and in the importance of venues with ‘the spirit of the place.’ That is, through the interaction of space, activities and people, eslite hopes to create ‘the possibility of people encountering their own spirit within its spaces,” said Wu.
Eslite Spectrum is set to open its doors in 2022 but meanwhile, you can look forward to a range of other new additions to the high-end mall in the coming year, including to the new Starhill Dining.
