For bird lovers, one of the most captivating featuresof the park is its free-flight nature that gives visitors the sense they have walked into an enormous birdcage with a semi-natural environment.
No need for high-powered binoculars here! The park has so many free-flying birds and habitats suitable for the wide variety on show that it’s hard to move a few steps without seeing a peacock in full fan, a vividly hued scarlet ibis or a multitude of storks waiting for their fishy dinner. Sections like the Brahminy Land, Flamingo Pond, Hornbill Park and World of Parrots are each home to their own feathery residents.
Keep an eye out for indigenous species like the Brahminy Kite, Red-Breasted Parakeet, Hill Myna, Barred Eagle-Owl and Straw-Headed Bulbul displaying their impressive plumages. Also found in the park are the Milky Stork, Jungle Fowl, Malaysian Peacock Pheasant and the Oriental Pied Hornbill.
Visitors don’t need to be avid twitchers to get the most out of the park as there’s so much so see and do, from the must-visit frenetic feeding times at 11.30am, when the majestic hornbills that usually hide out in the upper canopy swoop down to feed at a much more photographic-friendly height, to the bird shows at 12.30pm and 3.30pm where the amazing blue and gold macaws will have you in fits of laughter.
Located adjacent to the Perdana Botanical Gardens, this 21-acre walk-in aviary has become a renowned ecotourism destination and one of ‘the’ sights to see in KL!
