Under a beam of lasers and lights, Chevrolet lifted the covers on their latest pickup truck, the all-new Colorado, its toughest, highest-performing and most refined midsize pickup to date. This remarkable new vehicle is the end result of a 5-year research program, costing in excess of USD 2 billion, and spanning five continents in more than 60 markets.
Held at KL’s Performing Arts Center, the launch was nothing short of spectacular with a large outdoor marquee set up for dinner and drinks coupled with a stage for the live performances throughout the evening. Situated along the lake, the ambience was flawless, and the live entertainment impeccable while guests thoroughly enjoyed the extensive buffet spread. The curious were able to get up close and personal with the new vehicles, 2 fine examples of which stood next to the giant marquee for perusal.
Chevrolet has become masters in the art of pickup design, having manufactured pickup trucks over a span of 100 years. Ironically however, the new Colorado is the first pickup that Chevrolet has sold in Malaysia, and so this release represents a milestone for the automobile giant.
Martin Apfel, President of General Motors Thailand/SEA & Chevrolet Sales Thailand, remarked in his speech that the new model represents Chevrolet’s most clean-sheet midsize truck program in its 100-year history, incorporating a host of new technological features and aesthetics not previously seen in the line-up. It is indeed among the safest vehicles in its class with features such as Electronic Stability Control, Electronic Brake-Force Distribution, Traction Control, Hydraulic Brake Assist, and Cornering Brake Control.
The LT and LTZ double cab variants will be available for the Malaysian market via NAZA Quest SdnBhd with the 2.5L manual transmission and 2.8L engine in both auto and manual transmission. The range features a choice of two all-new Duramax turbo diesel engines that provide a leading combination of performance and fuel economy across three specification levels.
The all-new Colorado comes with a wide ranging appeal, be it as a family hauler, a workhorse or a 4×4 all-terrain vehicle. Whether it’s for a quick sprint down a busy urban street or an extended safari on the grueling rainforest trails of Malaysia, the truck is game for just about any geographical location you can drive it to. To be sure, more than 2.5 million kilometers were driven during its programdevelopment, leaving literally no stone unturned and no road untraveled in its quest for technological innovations and automotive supremacy.
The combination of its sleek, new muscular design, superior performance and versatility along with its excellent fuel economy will create a high demand for this new midsize pickup that is almost custom-made for Malaysia’s environment and landscapes.
