The lobby of the Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur was glittering as diners gathered ahead of their dinner at European eatery Lafite – a true example of gourmet dining at its best.
The guests in attendance to enjoy this special evening included YAM Tunku Dara Tunku Tan Sri Naquiah binti Almarhum Tuanku Ja’afar, YB Senator Dato’ Seri Effendi Norwawi, Dato’ Thong Kok Khee, Dato’ Kok Wee Kiat and Dato’ Farah Khan.
Once the canapés had been savoured, Chef Georg Schröppel – a relatively new face at Lafite – introduced his inspiring menu, which this year was awarded the Judges’ Choice – Most Creative Menu.
“I believe nature gave us everything we need to make delicious food,” Chef Georg explained, “all I do is support the rich flavours!” The eight courses that came out of that philosophy were not only delicious, but looked like works of art; from the opening course of Steamed Organic Duck Egg Custard right down to the plate of desserts which featured sweet treats such as Warm Valrhona Chocolate Souffle and Tahiti Vanilla Cappuccino.
One course that really caught the imagination was the Baby Limousine Lamb: succulent pink lamb encased in a brilliant green mousse. A beaming YB Senator Dato’ Seri Effendi Norwawi declared it “simply beautiful!” After the meal, Dato’ Kok Wee Kiat congratulated Chef Georg’s fine work: “you are a chef who cooks from the heart.”
