18 June 2019: It was a morning filled with culture as the Latin American gave a taste of what’s to come
Announcements for the upcoming Latin American Festival were made in a fun-filled event at BB Park in Bukit Bintang recently. The festival takes place later this month and is a collaboration between seven embassies from the Group of Latin America and Caribbean Countries (GRULAC) alongside Plaza Low Yat, The Federal Kuala Lumpur, Hotel Capitol Bukit Bintang and the Latin Women’s Association of Malaysia with support from Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL).
Speeches from Plaza Low Yat and BB Park Executive Area General Manager Michael Lee, Ambassador of Peru Guido Loayza, and President of the Latin Women’s Association Gisela Zeiner kicked of the event, leading right into cultural performances that included Brazilian Capoeira, a Mexican folk dance and the Tango from Argentina.
“I am honoured that the Latin American Embassies have chosen BB Park once again for the 9th consecutive year. We will share this wonderful experience to the local and expatriate community in Malaysia. We are sure it will be an eye-opening and fun-filled experience for everyone,” said Lee.
An insight to Latin American dishes was also presented to the press during the refreshment session, who got to try the colourful foods on display.
Some of bite-sized food featured were Empanadas and Alfajores from Argentina, Coxinhas and Cheese Bread from Brazil, Coconut Pastry from Cuba as well as Chicken Tacos and Tlacoyos from Mexico – all of which will be available during the festival proper.
The 11th Latin American Festival with the theme of ‘Latin America Meets Malaysia’ takes place on 30 June at BB Park Kuala Lumpur from 11am – 6pm. The festival is open to the public and will see performances and activities throughout the day.
