In this first-ever Festival happening, Taste MIGF invited the general public to the specially created Theatre of Cuisines, there to sample gourmet delicacies from this year’s line up of 26 premier MIGF restaurants. Each restaurant offered exquisite selections from their exclusive MIGF 2012 Special Festival menus, prepared by MIGF Master Chefs over a range of cuisines from all corners of the globe.
The portions, big enough to showcase the creativity of the Festival chefs yet small enough to allow as many tastings as possible, were also great value for money: the special Taste Tokens needed to purchase were amazingly low cost.
From the opening of the doors at 11am through to the close, thousands of people flocked to the Centre and over the next 12 hours a true festival atmosphere reigned. Apart from the fabulous gourmet food and drink there was the combination of vibrant Cuban music from Alma Latina, wildly colourful stilt-walkers, a stand-out performance by celebrated contemporary violinist Dennis Lau, and a dance floor packed by the patrons.
Chef Wan Wow’s Them!
Talking of stand-out performances, Malaysia’s own international super-star Chef Wan conducted two cooking classes – day and evening. And with his inimitable laugh-a minute, learn-a-lot delivery, Chef Wan duly brought the packed house down.
Between these showpieces, a further big hit with the gathered food lovers was provided by no fewer than 16 of Malaysia’s top chefs offering further expert cooking classes and workshops.
Right next door to the Theatre of Cuisines was the taste MIGF Gourmet Village: over 80 food and beverage stations offered foodies the opportunity to sample and shop for a wide range of top quality produce – including fine wines, spirits, cheeses, gourmet chocolates and an abundance of other mouthwatering delicacies from all over the world. Needless to say, this was another big attraction, simply adding to everyone’s enjoyment and overall good food experience.
Of course everyone is now looking forward to a whole month of premium dining delights during the Malaysian International Gourmet Festival 2012 – all through October.
And regarding Taste MIGF?…perhaps it is best summed up by Stella, who drove all the way from Johor to be at the inaugural event: “I was very happy to have made the trip.
I have tried all the Taste MIGF restaurants and the food has far and away exceeded my expectations…this is a fantastic event and I will be back again next year.”
See you there Stella – along we’re sure, with thousands of other food enthusiasts.
