Sunway University recently celebrated the Malaysia Junior National Culinary Team’s participation in the 25th IKA Culinary Olympics 2020, to be held in Stuttgart on 14 February. With VIPs in attendance, the team received an exhilarating send-off party, complete with a mouth-water dinner.
Among the honoured guests were celebrity chef Dato’ Redzuawan bin Ismail (Chef Wan), World Pastry Cup team coach Chef Patrick Siau and Sunway Education Group CEO Dr Elizabeth Lee.
The Malaysia Junior National Culinary Team had earlier won gold at The Shanghai (IYCC) which was part of the 2019 FHC China International Culinary Arts Competition with 600 participants competing in over 25 categories.
The IKA Culinary Olympics has a long history dating back to 1900 when the first competition was held in Frankfurt. It ranks as the biggest and most diverse culinary competition in the world, drawing some 2000 professional chefs from 59 countries who will step up to the stove to create gourmet works of art.
The chefs will have to demonstrate their competence in a variety of disciplines including Chef’s Table, Restaurant of Nations, and Live Carving, each testing their ability to combine ingredients, preparation and presentation in a variety of ways.
Here’s wishing the team the best of luck – stay tuned for updates on how they fare!
