The inaugural SPH Food Festival was held to celebrate the many varieties of food and beverages available at the luxurious 5-star Sunway Putra Hotel.
The highlight of the event was the 2016 SPH Cook Off Challenge featuring three local celebrities who prepared three dishes from the menus of the hotel. The winner of the competition would have their dish incorporated into the menu at the Coffee House, alongside a special description and endorsement.
“We wanted people to be inspired to eat a dish recommended by a well-known local celebrity,” explained Sunway Putra Hotel Executive Chef Rossham Rusli.
Adding a Masterchef style twist, the three contestants – actress and model Ramona Zam Zam, actor and singer Anding Indrawani and actress Shakilla Khoriri – participated in a Mystery Box challenge where the ingredients they were to cook with were revealed minutes before the contest began.
The crowd watched in anticipation as the 45 minute countdown began, and the participants took their places at their respective stations. Zam Zam’s spicy mee goreng dish won the first prize of the night, while Khoriri took home second place for her prawn aglio olio and Indrawani was awarded second runner up for his creamy carbonara.
