Sunway Student Volunteers and Great Heart Charity Association clean up streets around Sunway City
Sunway Student Volunteers (SSV) recently collaborated with Great Heart Charity Association (GCHA) for a mass street clean up around Sunway City.
The collaboration stands as the fourth session of the Great Heart Warriors initiative of the year to improve the cleanliness of the environment.
“The effects of not keeping the environment clean reflects on a country’s image and the attitude of its citizens. Thus, it is important for each and every one of us to play our part even by the simplest acts of switching off the lights when they are not in use”, said Raenuga Indran, a volunteer for the Great Heart Earth Warriors initiative at Sunway.
Selangor Speaker and DAP assemblyman for Subang Hannah Yeoh was present to launch SSV’s biggest mass street clean up collaboration involving Sunway City and the campus community.
Members of SSV, staff of Sunway Education Group and members of the public within the Sunway City community were separated into four teams and worked together to clean up areas around Sunway University. The rubbish collected was segregated and recycled according to material.
Praising the involvement of SSV in this sustainable effort, Senior Executive Director of Sunway Education Group and Sunway University Dr Elizabeth Lee emphasised the importance of educating future generations on maintaining the environment, such as recycling, using less plastic and composting.
Previous Great Heart Earth Warriors initiatives by the Great Heart Charity Association were carried out in Klang, Kuala Lumpur and Balakong.
Since the establishment of the Jeffrey Sachs Center on Sustainable Development at Sunway University last year, the Sunway community has been strongly advocating sustainable development and environmental awareness.
