30 September 2017:Mid-Autumn festivities abound with a magnificent show of music and dance
One of Bukit Bintang’s more prominent shopping attractions, Sungei Wang Plaza, celebrated their 40th anniversary and the third edition of the Sungei Wang Lantern Parade with a spectacular arrangement of performances that included lion dancing and musical numbers on a grand scale. YB Fong Kui Lun, member of Parliament for Bukit Bintang, officiated the parade.
“Now in its third year, the Sungei Wang Lantern Parade entertained with international and local artistes, 988 radio station announcers together with 100 lion dance troupes from various lion dance associations. Strategically located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, Sungei Wang constantly attracts tourists from around the world. Every year during the Mid-Autumn Festival, we try to let tourists experience the festive celebrations with us through events like this,” said Yuen May Chee, Complex Manager of Sungei Wang.
Six popular announcers from the official radio station for the event, 988, participated in a meet-and-greet session with their fans. Two lucky fans won a 1-night stay at Oasia Suites Kuala Lumpur and cash vouchers in an interactive game that was held during this session. The parade then saw the much-awaited appearances of Taiwanese singing star Miu Chu, rising newcomer Ruby Yap and local renowned band Mad August. These musical wonders kept the crowd cheering for more with their hits. The Sungei Wang Lantern Fun Park Mid-Autumn Musical was also performed to deliver some 70s nostalgia to those on the scene.
Main sponsor Magnum set up a booth that offered interactive games for shoppers patronising Sungei Wang, and several of those who stopped by left with merchandises.
To the peal of a drum struck by YB Fong Kui Lun and Ng Yih Chen, Chairman of Sungei Wang Plaza Management Corporation, the parade mobilised, circulating the Bukit Bintang area with the dozens of lion dance troupes in tow!
