Malaysia’s biggest little festival, Short+Sweet, returns this year for its 13th season! It runs for several weeks beginning from 1 October to 24 October at klpac before resuming at penangpac from 30 October to 7 November.
The folks behind the festival, which features film, comedy, theatre, music and dance, likens it to “a good Malaysian buffet filled with bite-sized theatrical delights – all brand-new (original) works 10 minutes or under. Each week features a different genre and for the price of one ticket, you will be served a delectable spread of short works. One minute you can be watching an exquisite, ancient traditional dance and an explosive contemporary dance piece the next minute.”
Whether they are old hands or fresh on the scene, artistes of various persuasions, styles and fields are brought together by Short+Sweet to strut their stuff.
Festival Director Dato’ Dr Faridah Merican, who is also klpac’s Co-founder, said, “After months of inactivity, we are more than ready to make a comeback. Much to our delight, we received 119 entries, 86 in Kuala Lumpur and 33 in Penang. That is almost 120 teams ready to wow audiences at this year’s Short+Sweet which makes it an even sweeter return for us. Come, watch, vote and enjoy the festival fun because we could all do with a little Short+Sweet magic now.”
The event kicks off with its film component from 1 to 2 October. With circumstances as they are this year, Short+Sweet Film Malaysia goes online for the first time, with all 13 short films streamed on CloudTheatre’s virtual platform. Viewers are assured of a smooth digital theatre experience, from purchasing the tickets to watching the shows.
Stand-Up Comedy & Song is next from 2 to 3 October, Musical from 9 to 10 October, Dance from 16 to 17 October and Theatre from 23 to 24 October.
Subsequently, the action travels north to penangpac with Dance from 30 to 31 October and Theatre from 6 to 7 November.
Short+Sweet participants will compete with each other for the top awards which are sponsored by Passion Pictures, Dancesteps Studio, Kakiseni, Yamaha Music Malaysia and more, ensuring that they bring their best to the table. Viewers will also be able give their vote to their favourite pieces for the Audience Choice Award!
