Roughly a year after the move, he was mastering the piano, infusing the house with classical compositions. At 12, he was honing his skills on the drums. Soon he was playing in a band called Dioramic.
As he entered his late teens, he began to form an affinity for electronic music after listening to the debut album of French duo Justice. It would set the ball rolling for his award-filled deejay career.
The Onset Of ZEDD
There is quite an interesting explanation of how his stage name came to be. Long before any credible notions of international recognition populated his mind, he needed a way to differentiate himself from his schoolmate – because they were each called Anton.
Whenever someone uttered the name, both would answer. To combat the confusion, the two friends decided to go by the initial of their last names. Thus Anton Zaslavski became Zed, as per the European pronunciation of the letter. To make it easier for everyone to remember his new handle, he stuck an additional ‘d’ to the end of it.
Setting out in 2010 under this moniker, he made good on his club music vocation and did remixes of popular songs, while creating original anthems as well. These efforts got him noticed on EDM platforms like Beatport, and he quickly dominated the electronic dance charts.
The baby-faced Zedd’s springboard to overnight fame however was the platinum song Clarity, to which singer Foxes supplied her vocals. The hugely successful single, which landed him a Grammy in 2014 among other accolades, was the precursor to several other hits he forged with numerous artistes in the following years, including Stay featuring Alessia Cara, I Want You To Know featuring Selena Gomez, and Beautiful Now featuring Jon Bellion.
