Last year marked this popular flower event’s tenth showing since 2007, and at the end of this month the Royal Floria Putrajaya returns to pull in the masses once more. For ten days beginning 30 August, the Putrajaya Botanical Garden will be the must-go destination for flower lovers.
Far from a glorified florist meet, it has over the years proven to be a properly constructed event devoted to blooms of various forms, and often with national records of such collections being made along the way. Roses, lilies, hibiscuses, heliconias, bougainvilleas, begonias and more have taken the centre stage in past iterations, and this time around the theme is ‘Mother of all Gardens: Orchids & Bonsai’, drawing the focus on these two desirable plants.
Even if you’re not a floral connoisseur, the Royal Floria still has its appeal. It is visual ambrosia, embellishing the intrinsic natural beauty of the Botanical Garden with its colourful presence. While your eyes are taken care of, the faint perfume in the air and other activities sweeten the deal.
Unsurprisingly, the word ‘garden’ is used liberally in such an occasion as this. No less than twenty thematic gardens are up for entry into visitors’ to-see lists this year, forming the base on which a floral adventure can happily take root. The Chrysanthemum Garden, Royal Garden, Musical Garden, Magical Garden, Tea Party Garden and Designer Garden are among these, each bringing to the table an enveloping experience based on their themes. Tropical Magic in a Glass, a terrarium-style exhibition, is another immersive prospect.
Elsewhere on the grounds, numerous exhibition booths covering a wide scope of gardening topics allow you to brush up on your floral knowledge, and should your green thumb begin to itch, you can find great deals on products, furniture, tools and plants.
Also on the itinerary are the International Orchid Competition and The Magic of Bonsai & Suiseki Exhibition, both key events of the overall theme. Meanwhile, cultural performances, craft displays, contests and activities, as well as other Royal Floria aspects round off what yet again is sure to be Malaysia’s flower event of the year.
