23 September 2017:Peranakan culture celebrated in conjunction with the traditional Chinese lantern festival
Quill City Mall KL recently brought to life the colourful culture of the Baba Nyonya in a special Mid-Autumn Carnival that was held in conjunction with the 60th Independence celebrations and the Baba Nyonya Mid-Autumn Festival that runs until October 8.
To mark the occasion, the interior and exterior of the mall was adorned with patriotic decorations and giant lanterns, while a special set of events and attractions took place over the past weekend as well.
The carnival, which ran from 10am-10pm each day, saw a series of activities organised together with China Press, which included carnival games, cultural performances, DIY workshops, Chinese painting, calligraphy demonstrations, artiste performances, lantern painting workshops and a variety of booths selling mooncakes and other Peranakan delicacies.

Kids Colouring Contest – Group A (5-8 years old)
A special Festive Drum performance kicked off the event which was also graced by celebrities including Miss Chinese Cosmo World 2004 Carrie Lee, and singers/MCs Amy Wang, Jin Se, Fyone Tan and Stephanie Liew. Each of these took to the stage to welcome the crowd and perform a song.
A Kids Creative Colouring Contest and Recycled Lantern Making contest also took place, where children of all ages had the chance to show their creative side while also learning how to be kind to the environment and create sustainable products.
Draften Holdings Sdn Bhd Dato’ Alex Chai was on hand to contribute some of his personally painted artwork for a charity auction fund-raiser as part of the social responsibility activities of the Baba Nyonya Mid-Autumn Festival. Art work by calligraphers including Lim Kee Peng, Shiw Oi Yen, Linda Yong Li Yun, Yin Swee Kim, Jiam Swee Ngor and Simon Liew.
To make the occasion even more joyful, a special Shop, Dine & Win 2.0 Lucky Draw was held, where shoppers stood the chance to win cash vouchers worth up to RM3,000. At the same time, shoppers could also participate in the AirAsia BIG Loyalty program by snapping a photo their receipt and submitting it via the AirAsia BIG Loyalty App in exchange for points.
