As Sepang International Circuit’s (SIC) 5.5km track explodes to life with the F1 super machines that descend upon it like a pack of wild dogs, the hardcore of petrol heads among the masses will want to savour some of the high speed action themselves.
While the main track is off limits, SIC’s go-kart track is the ideal place for a fiery taste of adrenaline pumping speed. Taking a corner at around 40 mph while you’re three inches off the ground is every bit as exhilarating as it sounds, not to mention the rush of adrenaline that comes from over-taking a rival, leaving a skid mark of burnt rubber in your wake.
The 1,247 metre circuit with 11 hair-raising bends and two long straights, gives you plenty of opportunity to execute plenty of take overs and other daring maneuvers. Up to 18 karts at a time fit on the track and you can choose between a basic quick experience, allowing for free and easy karting 10 minutes at a time, or a race adventure if you’re down for the full monty of practice session, qualifying rounds, and final race.
First timers or those who want a breezy session can hop on the 150cc karts that reach up to 65-70 km/h and for adrenaline junkie-speed demons, the 220cc karts are the ideal mean machines for daring drifting drills.
Ayrton Senna, the legendary Brazilian Grand Prix champion, once said gokarting is “the purest form of motor racing”. Hit the custom made track in Sepang today to find out what the threetime Formula 1 champion was so adamant about.
