Francophonic fanaticism is once again spreading across the country as the French Art & Film Festival returns for its 14th edition. From 14 May to 16 June, the culturally curious can explore the ways of the Parisians and Marseillais as the Klang Valley becomes awash with performances and film screenings.
Organised by the Alliance Française and the Embassy of France in Malaysia, and supported by the Institut Français, the festival is once again ready to welcome thousands of locals, French expats and international visitors for a celebration of French culture.
The film festival alone attracted around 6,000 viewers last year and with 15 recent releases on show this time around including The French Minister, The Finishers, and Serial (Bad) Weddings, the attendance is expected to be even better. Alongside the screenings will be numerous shows and concerts showcasing the very best in French entertainment.
These Western European extravaganzas include DVJ Oof bringing his unique DJ set to Bukit Bintang’s Pisco Bar; a dance performance by renowned troupe Standards at the Malaysia Tourism Centre; and a classical music recital by famous French pianist Célimène Daudet at Dewan Filharmonik Petronas at KLCC. Also featured in the month-long festival will be a photography exhibition titled Imagine France at Publika Mall’s WhiteBox, where Maia Flore has assembled 28 of her finest photographs of the various heritage sights from across the nation.
And what exploration into French culture would be complete without food? With French markets, cognac and champagne tastings as well as many French restaurants in the country hosting Pure Gourmet dining events, the gastronomical journey starts here. So save on a flight to Paris with a dive into la vie française right here in Malaysia as FAFF returns for a 14th year – bigger, better and more fabulously French than ever before.
