19 July 2017:Sultan of Selangor officially unveils the Malaysian Institute of Architects’ PAM centre
Pertubuhan Akitek Malaysia (PAM), or the Malaysian Institute of Architects, celebrated a milestone recently with the launch of the new PAM centre on Jalan Tandok in Bangsar.
On hand to inaugurate the provisional platinum certified green building was His Royal Highness, The Sultan of Selangor, DYMM Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Al-Haj, who at the same time launched a book entitled In The Eye Of The Story, documenting PAM’s story in acquiring a new centre for architects to call home.

Also present to witness the launch were PAM President Ar. Ezumi Harzani Ismail; Chairman of Organising Committee and Past PAM President Ar. Saifuddin bin Ahmad; council members of Architects Regional Council Asia and members of the International Union of Architects Congress.
With the aim to be the greenest building in town, the new PAM headquarters has five key design features – timelessness, sustainability, practicality, innovation and economic viability.
“The building was not only designed in line with PAM’s aspirations as a centre for architectural advancement and development but also took into account environment, culture and society with a timeless and minimalistic approach in overall design and detailing,” said Ar. Ezumi Harzani.
When PAM initially purchased the site, the plan was for it to be built-up into an architect-driven centre for contemporary arts, however this plan changed when notice was given to vacate their headquarters at Jalan Tangsi in 2012. Instead, the site would now accommodate a new base for PAM and Centre of Architecture.
The design for the new building came about as a result of a single-stage competition open to all PAM Corporate Members. Ar. Mohd Heikal bin Hassan of HMA & Associates won the bid, for a design that provided an efficient solution for a tight and constrained space while remaining eloquent in style.
