Showcasing the best of local handicrafts that best exhibit Malaysian culture and traditional values, the annual National Craft Day is back, organised by Malaysia Handicraft Development Corporation, an agency under Ministry of Tourism and Culture.
Running from 24 February to 6 March at Kuala Lumpur Craft Complex, Jalan Conlay, the celebration includes the exhibition, sales and promotion of new products comprising textiles, forest-based products, ceramics and metals.
The many intricate designs and motifs are all under the celebration’s chosen theme – ‘Native Go Creative’ in which the makers of the handicrafts were encouraged to make objects that best reflected the history and traditions of Malaysia.
Alongside the event, many activities are available, promising a fun-filled day out for the whole family. A fashion show exhibiting the best in local garments, a concert by several notable buskers from around Kuala Lumpur and many food trucks to satiate guests are just some of the other events to be found at KL Craft Complex right now.
Apart from promoting public awareness and appreciation of the industry, the National Craft Day celebration serves to honour and grant official recognition to highly skilled traditional craftsmen for their contributions to promoting and preserving Malaysia’s national culture and heritage.
