Yiruma
Born in South Korea, this composer is a natural on the piano. He started playing when he was just five, and his skills were sharpened at Purcell School of Music as well as King’s College in England after moving there at the age of 10.
From 2001 to the present, Yiruma has released more albums than you have fingers, and his soothing compositions have been incorporated into movie soundtracks and artiste collaborations. His sound, described as new-age, resembles contemporary classics sometimes heard in film scores. Perhaps his most popular piece, River Flows in You, is the epitome of his much-loved signature style.
Shila Amzah
Considered as the first Malay artiste to break into the mainstream Chinese music market, KL lass Shila released her first album at only nine. Since then, she has sung not only in Malay, but in English, Mandarin and other languages too, with multiple music awards and various recognitions to her name.
Having excelled in singing competitions in Malaysia and abroad, her ability to belt out Chinese hits netted her fans in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Her Chinese single, See You or Never, took just two days to reach 1 million streams on Weibo Music; a telltale clue of her immense pulling power.
Il Divo
Swiss Urs Bühler, Spaniard Carlos MarТn, American David Miller and French Sébastien Izambard make up the multinational foursome known as Il Divo. Formed in 2003 in the UK, the quartet are famed for their classical crossover singing – think an approximation of modern-day opera, with beautifully pitched solo and group voices on a given track of theirs.
The first band of their kind to top the US Billboard 200 list, Il Divo – ‘divine performer’ in Italian – have achieved many followers and accolades over the years thanks to their spellbinding tenor and baritone performances.
