It’s been five long months since the Damansara Performing Arts Centre had a live audience at a performance but that’s about to change. This month the centre welcomes back visitors with The Meeting, a musical endeavour that brings together a diverse set of musical influences.
Sape musician Alena Murang
The Meeting received overwhelming response when it was broadcast live for online viewers recently, and this time around the show will be offered in-the-flesh as well as a live broadcast and live stream.
The show comprises seven talented musicians with different backgrounds and genres, each bringing a different flavour to the mix. They are set to take audiences on a musical journey with points across the East and West, drawing influences from the modern and the traditional. Experimental genres merge with world music to create a unique sonic landscape that pushes boundaries in new directions.
Sape master Alena Murang will interweave her Sarawakian heritage into the medley of genres, while Sara Heng brings the classical sounds of the Guzheng to the stage – a Chinese plucked string instrument with over 2,500 years of history.

Handling the drums is the well-travelled Jimmy Chong who has his hands in numerous local indie bands and is comfortable in multiple genres. Keyboardist Sylvester Liew steps up with more than 19 years of experience working with local and international artistes; guitarists Joshua Maran and Jonathan Wong, both active in a wide range of musical acts and events, add their flair to the string section; and bassist Herman Ramanado expertly covers the low end.
If you’re looking for 100% original music that’s impossible to pigeonhole, and that incorporates a broad range of contrasting and complementing sounds, make sure to catch The Meeting this month!
