As one of the most important dates on the lunar calendar, Chinese New Year sees almost all of KL’s shopping malls decked with celebratory decorations to usher in the festival. While you’re filling your bags with the best bargains, take some time to admire the impressive installations at these strongholds of retail.
Following its rebranding in 2018, 3 Damansara celebrates its first Chinese New Year with Joys of Prosperity as the mall is enlivened with red Chinese lanterns, cherry blossoms and exciting performances like a prosperity drum showcase and lion dance show.
Located at the Main Concourse is the CNY Prosperity Bazaar where you can pick up hampers and goodies perfect for gifting, as well as festive traditional outfits for the occasion.
Plaza Low Yat
Welcoming a year of Radiant Pearls-perity, Plaza Low Yat gets you into the CNY spirit with plenty of happenings at the Main Entrance and BB Park, where you get to watch acrobatic martial arts, lion dance and Chinese drum performances.
After shopping for your tech needs, step outside the mall and you’ll find a giant pearl, the spot for an Instagram-worthy shot!
Berjaya Times Square
Over at Berjaya Times Square, the Ground Floor Central is dressed with lush greenery, nostalgic village houses and a bridge which resembles that of Zhouzhuang Water Town in the Jiangsu province. Be amazed by strings of large red lanterns hanging from above as you take a stroll along the tranquil river.
The mall is also providing unique experiences with paper-cutting, clay doll-making and traditional Chinese calligraphy workshops.
Pavilion KL simulates a Chinese imperial court at the Centre Court with a dragon throne, gold trees, majestic pillars and lanterns for A Regal Celebration.
As you approach the mall’s Main Entrance, you are also greeted by two towering golden lion sculptures. While you’re there, stay on to catch some impressive stunts by an acrobatic lion dance troupe.
