Local theatre company Liver & Lung is releasing its award-winning musical short film Mahsuri (& Other Peculiar Tales) online as 2021 rolls in! Three 8pm (KL time) showtimes have been scheduled across three back-to-back dates, from 8 to 10 January 2021.
Mahsuri is a woman who’s the subject of a famous Malaysian legend, and this musical repurposes the old folk tale for modern times. The story follows an autistic boy called Adam who suddenly ends up in 18th century Langkawi, bringing Mahsuri, her husband Wan Derus, and her mother-in-law Mahura into the picture as the plot thickens.
This production first appeared on stage in 2017 to overwhelmingly positive reception. It subsequently shined bright at the Boh Cameronian Art Awards, adding to the company’s other award-winning production, Sepet The Musical, as another of Liver & Lung great successes.
With an immersive story, a capable cast, commendable production value and of course great tracks, Mahsuri (& Other Peculiar Tales) promises to entertain from start to finish. Tickets go for RM15 and can be purchased here. You can check out the trailer below for a better idea of what you’ll be getting!
