No stranger to singing since his childhood years, he took to writing his own songs early on, and eventually began recording tracks and covers in his teens. He was a victim of bullying at the time, and turned to his love of music as an escape from depression after being inspired by Kid Cudi, assuming the persona Super Duper Kyle to remain upbeat.
At the tail end of high school, he was releasing indie mixtapes and digital albums under pseudonyms, most notably K.i.D, which stood for Kyle Is Determined. Finding his place among mainstream music artistes with the mega-hit I Spy (over 276 million YouTube views and counting) featuring Lil Yachty in late 2016, he signed on with Atlantic Records early the following year.
Kyle and his music had no problems prospering, thanks to his relatable lyrics and infectious, feel-good rap style. His songs are catchy and his rhymes are tidy, delivered admirably in his smooth silvery voice.
The talented artiste went on to star in the 16+ Netflix Original movie The After Party last year, further expanding his popularity. The fictitious plot involves an aspiring rapper called Owen (Kyle) who’s trying to make it big. Things don’t go well as while performing in a club, an under-the-influence Owen pukes on none other than Wiz Khalifa before having a seizure – and “Seezah Boi” becomes viral for all the wrong reasons. It’s definitely worth a watch if you’re into the breakout rap scene; Kyle throws down some amazing verses as Owen.
