11 October 2017:Swiss watch giant Hublot and The Hour Glass showcase the innovation and creative power behind the brand
When Hublot founder Carlo Crocco became the first person to combine a natural rubber strap with a gold-crafted watch in 1980, it marked the birth of the ‘fusion’ concept in the world of horology. That concept has been at the heart of the Hublot philosophy and continues to guide its actions, innovations, developments and partnerships.
Hublot recently celebrated this heritage with a private Art of Fusion showcase, highlighting the brand’s unique ability to combine the past with the future in totally innovative ways. Graced by Hublot CEO Ricardo Guadalupe and Hublot SA CEO Dr Kenny Chan, the event showcased some of the brands iconic timepieces and offered a glimpse into the movements and complications created in-house.

Also present was The Hour Glass Limited Group Managing Director Michael Tay, who together with Guadalupe welcomed VIPs including the Crown Prince of Johor, Tunku Idris Iskandar Al-Haj Ibni Sultan Ibrahim, Tunku Temenggong Johor, Joe Flizzow, legendary Malaysian hip-hop artist and Samantha Katie James, Miss Universe Malaysia 2017, to the trendy Slate at The Row.
Guests were treated to experiences inspired by the Art of Fusion, from personalising their own Hublot key chains, savouring a free flow of special ice cream cocktail concoctions by Hublot’s in-house mixologist, to indulging on novelty dessert – black sesame ice cream served on charcoal cones.
“The Art of Fusion finds its expression far beyond the materials, it’s a lifestyle, it’s a mind-set that guides all Hublot’s actions and partnerships. To us, The Art of Fusion means linking yesterday and today with tomorrow and we are proud to celebrate our philosophy with The Hour Glass in Kuala Lumpur,” said Guadalupe at the event.
Hublot’s research and development has led to the creation of its own patented alloys including Hublonium (magnesium and aluminium), King Gold (gold and platinum), and more recently, Magic Gold, created through the fusion of 24-carat gold and ceramic.
A team dedicated to the pursuit of developing and refining these elements – the Metallurgy and Materials Department – ensures the brand stays on the cutting edge. Hublot has also invested in fundamental research by collaborating with the EPFL (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology) since 2010.
The celebration reached its peak with a rhythmic performance by the shadow dancers, who deftly combine choreography with technology, and a show-stopping act by hip hop artist Joe Flizzow. The night ended on a high note with celebrity DJ and singer songwriter, Mr. Fluff, who mesmerised guests with his electrifying mixes.
