With 13 albums under his belt and a career spanning over three decades, the 57-year-old Bryan Adams is a force to be reckoned with. The Grammy award winner has sold a whopping 65 million records in his lifetime while achieving number one status in over 40 countries.
Numerous comparisons have been drawn between him and Bruce ‘The Boss’ Springsteen, with both delivering high energy live concerts and stage antics that pump up crowds. This month he’ll be shaking up Malawati Indoor Stadium, kicking the new year off with a bang.
Adams’ latest tour is in support of his 13th studio album, Get Up, which contains 13 tracks written together with long-time writing partner Jim Vallance. After 36 years on the circuit, the Canadian superstar still has it as Get Up’s collection are all solid rock outings, with some on the harder end of the spectrum like the up-tempo Brand New Day and Thunderbolt, and some on the softer side like Don’t Even Try and We Did It All. Indeed, the album has been labelled by many critics as his strongest for some time.
A song that everyone will be waiting to hear live is the record breaking (Everything I Do) I Do It For You, written for the 1991, Kevin Costner-led Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. The song spent 16 weeks at the top of the UK charts (the longest in the chart’s history), and remains one of the best-selling singles of all time with hundreds of covers.
Seminal track Summer Of ’69, taken from his 1984 breakthrough album Reckless, will no doubt grace the set list, ready to raise the roof. These two crowd favourites are known for their tremendous sing-along appeal, with Adams’ leaving it to the crowd to sing back entire verses and sometimes more. “When people are singing your songs back to you that’s the biggest payback you could have as a songwriter,” says Adams.
With that in mind, get ready to sing your heart out for the man. It’s a guarantee that he’ll do the same.
