Simple, unpretentious and contemporary best describe High Tide, a restaurant offering fine European-style seafood cuisine. The interior is deceptively simple: comfortable beige chairs, white table cloths and polished wooden flooring. Then, dividing the restaurant is a large aquarium filled with a selection of exotic tropical fish (strictly for decoration, not degustation).
The evening attendees presented a lively cross-section of KL society, and included YM Tunku Johanez bin Tunku Dato’ Sri Annuar, Che’ Puan Winnie Sophia Low, and Tan Sri Dato’ Low Keng Huat.
MIGF’s Organising Chairman Dato’ Steve Day began the evening by introducing internationally credentialled High Tide Chef Evert Onderbeke, who responded enthusiastically on mention of the menu. “I hope everyone enjoys the food tonight, especially the Boston Lobster and Veal Sweetbread because it’s one of my favourites”.
Following introductions everyone proceeded to enjoy a succession of superb seafood, including a first course Gillardeau oyster marennes no.3; a trio comprising razor clam, sea shrimps, and scallops; and of course Chef Onderbeke’s favourite Lobster and Veal dish. A fitting finale was the sweet and imaginative chocolate dessert combination. At the evening’s end, Soren Ravn summed things up for everyone, “I had a great time tonight and in many ways it’s all thanks to a well organised MIGF.”
