6 March 2010, SaturdayMalaysia Tourism Information Centre MIGF – A Cornerstone of Malaysia’s International Food Tourism Strategy Speaking at the Chinese New Year open house at MATIC on Satuday, March 6, Tourism Minister YB Dato’ Sri Dr Ng Yen Yen reiterated the Ministry’s ongoing support for the highly successful, award-winning Malaysia International Gourmet Festival (MIGF). The Minister spoke about how food tourism is crucial to the overall economy – gastronomically as well as historically – before applauding MIGF founder Dato’ Steve Day for his efforts and foresight in establishing the Festival. The Minister then invited Dato’ Steve to present her with the official Report on MIGF 2009. Copies of the Report were distributed to all Press Conference panel members as well as members of the Media. Referring to the Report, Dato’ Sri Dr Ng pointed out how MIGF is central to sustaining the country’s leading position as a preferred choice for food-related tourism, and a key element in the Ministry’s ongoing ‘Fabulous Food 1 Malaysia’ promotional initiative: “Food tourism is a globally booming industry with all of the world’s major nations investing huge promotional resources into this high yield, foreign currency earning vehicle. We are delighted to put our weight behind MIGF and would like to congratulate the organisers, AsiaReach Events, not only for creating this world-class event but for helping to raise standards year after year.” There was a brief photography session afterwards in front of the MIGF 2010 banner, proudly displaying the theme of Magical Chefs!, and then the Minister then made her way to the main event hall where she joined hundreds of others in a celebration of fabulous food, music and dance.
