Looking for something exciting to do this weekend? Look no further as this Saturday the Federal Territory Day Carnival will offer up a thrilling programme, starting from as early as 7am and ending close to midnight.
Held to celebrate the formation of Malaysia’s three federal territories: Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan, the festival will take place at Dataran Merdeka where a range of daytime activities and performances will colour the grounds.
Then, from 7.30pm onwards, some of the country’s most loved bands will take to the stage in a spectacular open-air concert featuring a variety of musical genres. What better way could there be to cap off the day?
There’s something for everyone at the carnival which will feature sporty games such as 3 on 3 basketball, netball, tug-of-wars, Muay Thai and futsal to name a few. Get there super early and start your day right with a Zumba session, after which the opening ceremony will officially launch the event.
Skateboarders and BMX bikers will be whizzing about, performing stunts and tricks, while a freestyle bboy dance event will showcase the city’s very best poppers, lockers and droppers.
Children can look forward to colouring and painting competitions, as well as inflatable games. Buskers, artists, clowns and magicians will also be adding to the merriment, and if you’d like to try your hands at some handicraft or traditional games like congkak, Chinese chess and galah panjung (we’ll let you find out what these time-honoured activities entail), there will be plenty of opportunities to do that.
The party continues at night when the bands takes over, and among those performing are Bunkface, Siti Nordiana, Zamani, Black, Liza Hanim, Lan Solo, Hazami, Amelina and Elda Susanti among others. Get your dancing shoes on and prepare to singalong to perennial hits and chart toppers at this mega concert!
Some 15,000 people are expected to attend the lively celebration which is open and free-of-charge to everyone. So what are you waiting for? Grab friends, loved ones and family, and head to Dataran Merdeka this Saturday for a fun-filled day.
