Rugby fans are in for a triple treat at the popular KL Charity Rugby Dinner, which is back for its eighth successive year. Hosted by the British Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (BMCC), the dinner aims to serve up a five-star night in all aspects, headed by an impressive guest speaker line-up: 2007 England Captain Martin Corry, who played 64 times for England; Paul Wallace of South Africa, regarded as one of the world’s bestever tight-head props; and the many-capped Australian lock (now commentator and author) Peter FitzSimons.
With all their experience and years on the pitch, it’s not difficult to envisage the riveting anecdotes and inside information these gentleman will deliver. And, a superb dinner, accompanied by free flow wine and beer, is guaranteed, as the venue is one of KL’s premier hotels, the Shangri-La, which is a supporting partner of the event, together with Guinness and Tiger beer.
Other evening highlights are the Grand Charity Auction and fabulous Prize Raffle – both in aid of Malaysian charities. Indeed, the KL Charity Rugby Dinners have over the years from 2005 raised almost RM1 million for organisations such as the Agathians Shelter, the Malaysian Dyslexia Association and Taman Megah Disabled Children’s Care Centre, to name just a few.
BMCC Board Director Datuk Peter Wentworth, who has been instrumental in bringing this event to KL, says that the annual dinner is now considered one of the more significant sporting and networking events in the country.
“It is designed to raise awareness about the sport of rugby, and at the same time contribute to the community through the Charity Auction initiative, which has delivered close to RM1 million to date with donations to a wide range of good causes.
“All in all, the Rugby Charity Dinner offers a great opportunity to rub shoulders with the legends of the game, meet potential business contacts and give back to society by taking part in the charity auction, and incidentally, win some fantastic prizes.”
The line-up of prizes for last year’s Charity raffle was nothing short of spectacular, including tickets for the 2011 Rugby World Cup in New Zealand, limited-edition signed rugby memorabilia from the RBS 6 Nations, luxury hotel stays, and perhaps the most coveted of all, a commemorative jersey signed by all-time rugby legends Gavin Hastings, Jonah Lomu, Jonathan Davis and David Campese.
If last year’s prizes are anything to go by (and be sure they will be), it will be another brilliant Rugby evening. So get your tickets today and enjoy the scrum!
