The many cultures and traditions of Malaysia converge and take the spotlight at Citrawarna festival, also known as the Colours of 1Malaysia, this month. The vibrant cultural festival brings to life the historically infused grounds of Dataran Merdeka and stands a keystone tourism event organised by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture.
The annual event – this year themed “Culture, Nature, Future” – showcases the rich multi-cultural heritage of Malaysia and features stunning visuals and special effects, with more than 600 performers and plenty of music, dances and lightshows and a spectacular firework finale.
This year for the first time ever, award-winning actress Puan Sri Tiara Jacquelina directs and curates the show along with her highly creative team of professionals. It is sure to captivate audiences by turning the focus on the unique customs of the country’s people and the beauty of the nation’s natural wonders, while highlighting future events in a dazzling show, incorporating cutting edge technology.
The team behind Citrawarna together with the cast of MUD: Our Story of Kuala Lumpur
Before the show, audiences will be treated to a free viewing of MUD: Our story of Kuala Lumpur – now the capital’s longest running musical, which tells the tale of how the city came to be. There will be other activities at the MyFEST Chillax zone such as a graffiti and skateboard live demos, cosplay competition, food truck fiesta and busker performances.
Finally a special tribute to seminal Malaysian rock band Wings will round out the festival, with artists including Ella, Jaclyn Victor, One Nation Emcess and Amelina paying homage to the influential group, who celebrate their 30th anniversary in the music scene this year.
