It all started in 2015, when Challenges Media, partnering with Brickfields Asia College (BAC), had an idea to use an accessible sport like running to create a supportive and encouraging environment for disabled persons.
One year later, the Challenges Buddy Day – Run and Walk for Friendship has not only provided a way for reclusive people to do some exercise outdoors and mingle with their peers, but it has given them a valuable vehicle to integrate into mainstream society.
The event consists of a 7km Buddy Run, a 2.4km Buddy Walk and a Buddy Carnival. The 7km run will commence at Menara DBKL taking runners in one big loop along Jalan Ampang, past landmarks like KLCC, KL Live Centre and the KL Tower, before reaching the finish line at Dataran DBKL again. Those who want a less challenging route can join the Buddy walk, while the Buddy Carnival will feature music, mini-games, puppet shows and other entertaining activities.
Buddy Run Route
An annual event with international appeal, Challenges Buddy Run hopes to break down barriers and raise awareness for the difficulties people with disabilities face on a daily basis. Using ‘Music and Movement’ as its theme, the run promises to be an amazing day out in the centre of KL, bringing the pubic and members of the disabled community closer together.
