24 May 2017:The sporting dinner of the year bring together rugby fans together for a good cause
The recent BMCC Annual Charity Rugby Dinner delivered yet another memorable night for the 13th year running, bringing together 317 attendees alongside a few rugby legends in the glittering Grand Ballroom of Shangri-La KL.
Gracing the guest list were two capped Lions, and an All Blacks star as the guests of honour. The three – Justin Marshall, Peter Winterbottom and Fergus Slattery – took turns on the stage, recounting some of their most hilarious and unforgettable experiences during their professional playing years. Few other events on the sporting calendar allow the general public to rub shoulders with such greats and hear them speak frankly about their careers.
Back to once again liven up the proceedings and lead the auction was sports television personality, professional speaker and former Australian rugby union player Justin “Sambo” Sampson. Among his many roles, Sampson has been an ESPN Star Sports presenter and commentator for eight years, and has been hosting the dinner since its inception.
With Sambo on the mic, the auction was a lively affair which saw the crowd digging deep into their wallets to contribute towards this year’s beneficiary – the National Cancer Society Malaysia.
That same day in the morning, the three rugby legends hosted the traditional Rugby Coaching Clinic which was held at the Alice Smith School Kuala Lumpur. More than 50 rugby enthusiasts, ranging from ages 6 to 13, were given a masterclass on tackling and passing, getting their first taste of what it’s like to be a professional rugby player.
