As the sun dipped below the horizon and the month of October gradually began to slip away into the night, over 2000 guests – a veritable who’s who of Malaysian society – gathered in their beachwear at the Surf Pool of Sunway Lagoon Water Park for an explosive celebration like no other!
After a month-long festival of fine dining, it was time to honour the 30 Festival restaurants and their Master Chefs in the presence of the Festival’s Royal Patron, Tunku Laxamana Negeri Sembilan, YAM Tunku Naquiyuddin ibni Tuanku Ja’afar and the Festival’s Guest of Honour, YB Dato’ Sri Dr Ng Yen Yen, accompanied by Festival Organising Chairman, Dato’ Steve Day. The mood was perfectly set to celebrate the end of the country’s most fabulous fine dining event – the Malaysian International Gourmet Festival 2010.
As the tenth anniversary of this incredible Festival, it was always going to be a celebration like no other. Festival Organising Chairman YBhg Dato’ Steve Day surprised everyone with a spectacular entry as he zipped across the water on a flying fox in a rush of sparkles, before magically appearing on the stage! The fantastic evening was officially launched with a bang as the sky above the Sunway Lagoon Water Park was lit up with a tumultuous display of fireworks to ensure that this was an occasion that nobody would ever forget!
MIGF 2010, which ran throughout October, is an annual event that promotes and showcases the fantastic gourmet food being created every day nationwide. The guests gathered at the Surf Beach enjoyed browsing the food stalls, where a wide array of the best of Malaysian hawker food was sizzling deliciously and tantalising the taste buds – a welcome night off from cooking for the gourmet Master Chefs!
Guest of Honour YB Dato’ Sri Dr Ng Yen Yen, the Minister of Tourism Malaysia, was on hand to add her own enthusiastic comments at this magical event and stressed the importance of showing the world just what Malaysia has to offer. “In the overall scheme of things, gourmet dining is just as important as showcasing Malaysia’s natural wonders,” she stressed, before inviting the guests to join her in a beaming rendition of ‘happy birthday’ – a special tribute for this memorable anniversary of the country’s favourite gourmet event.
