The iconic Amcorp Mall has been drawing crowds to its bustling flea market since 1998, in which time it has grown to become the biggest of its kind in the Klang Valley. Antique lovers, vinyl diggers, toy collectors, second hand enthusiasts and many more congregate here every Saturday and Sunday, alongside a large contingent of artists showcasing their work.

Artists’ Corner is the newest quarter of the market, launched only last month in the midst of the pandemic. Founded by Khalid MS in collaboration with Rustic Malaysia Art, the corner sits on the Ground Floor of the mall where it hosts a collection of veteran and up-and-coming artists.
Khalid first had the idea of transforming a part of the market into a platform for artists five years ago, a dream that was realised in spite of the challenging times we find ourselves in. Or perhaps it was because of it, acting as an impetus to finally get it off the ground in order to provide an outlet for his community.

Some 11 artists are currently part of the initiative, the youngest no older than eight years of age. The idea is to provide exposure to both the new and the experienced, the young and the old, and have them interact with visitors and talk about their art.
The response, in turn, has been encouraging with customers purchasing artwork and engaging with the individuals behind it. By doing so, they can gain valuable insight into each piece from its creator, ask questions and simply find out more about each artist.

If you’ve never visited Amcorp on the weekend, we highly recommend checking it out as it’s a unique experience in and of itself. The enormous market is spread across four floors and is home to some 300 stalls which sell everything from vintage cameras and time-worn furniture to rare vinyl, antique jewellery and a universe of second hand knick knacks.
One can spend hours digging through unique treasures here for that special find. Of course, bargaining is the name of the game here, so make sure to brush up on your negotiation skills!

Artists’ Corner is open every weekend from 11am to 7pm. To find out more information, check out Artists’ Corner on Instagram or Facebook, or call 011 3147 0113.
