If you’ve heard of Bodyshakin’, chances are you’re familiar with this English boyband that enjoyed a chunky slice of the airwaves in the late 1990s.
911 was formed by dancers Spike Dawbarn and Jimmy Constable as well as singer Lee Brennan in 1995. Dipping their toes in the water, the three showed much potential with the crowds from the get-go, releasing singles through their own label. Night To Remember and Love Sensation became hits, drawing the attention of major record companies which scrambled over them.
Their 1997 debut album, The Journey, did reasonably well in the band’s home turf, topping out at number 13 on the UK Albums Chart. It was a different story halfway across the world though. With 911’s popular Bodyshakin’ on board, The Journey not only shot to the top of the Malaysian Albums Chart for 20 weeks, but it went Platinum a dozen times over!
Moving On (1998) and There It Is (1999) followed, but sadly cracks began to show and the members slowly drifted apart, each burdened by personal issues. They then released The Greatest Hits and a Little Bit More, before calling it quits in 2000. The lads briefly reformed eight years later for a nightclub tour around the UK, but it was a few years before they properly reunited.
Along with other British musical groups, 911 reconvened on a 2012 ITV2 documentary series called The Big Reunion that saw the bands rehearsing for a prominent comeback concert. It got 911 back writing songs, delivering Illuminate… (The Hits and More) in 2013 with new singles and tours.
The Reunion 2019
Still riding on a high, the band has announced that they’re reappearing in Malaysia after about two decades in a concert that’s sure to make fans thoroughly excited. The boys definitely are.
“We have been waiting for this day! It’s been too long, Malaysia! I hope our fans will come together to join us at this Reunion Party in KL. Malaysia is truly special to us,” exclaimed and enthusiastic Brennan. It’s a sentiment heartily seconded by Constable, who said, “Yeah come out and party with us. Let’s make it a night to remember,” and rounded off by Dawbarn’s seemly quip, “And do the Bodyshakin’!”
