Food and photos go together like bread and butter, especially in this age where apps like Instagram exist. Taking a flattering picture of your lunch simply because it looks delightful is something that has become second nature to a lot of people, and when the establishment that serves that lunch is as pretty as the food, you know you have a winning post in your hand. It’s also a great way to spread the word about where one can find tasty nosh that can be enjoyed in an attractive environment.
Selangor is a state that is filled with such places, and Tourism Selangor has handily listed down 15 cafés where you’d want to whip your phone out for a few well-framed shots before digging in!
La Fleur X Uniqorn Café (Bandar Sunway)
Located in Sunway, Le Fleur x Uniqorn Café features, unsurprisingly, a unicorn theme. Coated in shocking pink and populated with unicorn toys, the interior makes a great background for photos, while ‘La Fleur’ here refers to the café’s hot drinks such as coffee and hot chocolate. ‘Uniqorn’ meanwhile points the theme of the food, which include waffles and ice cream.

Jibby & Co Café (Subang Jaya)
Found adjacent to Empire Mall, Jibby & Co Café takes its design cues from Melbournian cafés. Contemporary styling with hung lamps, bits of foliage and glasshouse concept give it the wow factor to please any Instagrammer. Jibby & Co is also renowned for its sumptuous menu, which again echoes the type of food you can expect from a café in Melbourne.

Kueh Café (Shah Alam)
As the name implies, you can partake in helpings of Malaysian kueh (sweet and savoury snacks) at this Shah Alam café. There are nearly 40 varieties of Malay desserts here, which would add vibrancy to an IG post! Traditional meals such as Laksam, Nasi Lemak, Nasi Hujan Panas, Lempeng, and more are also available to be savoured in either the air-conditioned indoors or bright external area.

Le Gardenz Café (Seri Kembangan)
Constructed using shipping containers and decorated with wall art on the first two of this three-storey building, Le Gardenz Café has taken on a natural theme on the top level. Le This café is popular for private events such as birthday celebrations and office parties (with the corresponding pics!), which is a given thanks to its unique setup. Main course items right up to dessert options are on offer here.

The Picnic Table Café (Kota Damansara)
The Picnic Table Café intends to emulate the experience of a picnic, which is something that is not often done in Malaysia because of the tropical climate. It has a lawn carpet for a floor, setting the tone for a picture-filled picnic! There are also wooden tables and jamming sessions to heighten the ‘outdoorsy’ mood. Traditional picnic bites such as cheese grilled chicken sandwich, layer cakes, slice cakes and various drinks can be enjoyed here.

The Botanist Café (Cyberjaya)
The Botanist is a Cyberjaya café with an exterior that is heavy on greenery and interior that is covered with wood accents, from the furniture to the walls. The outside eating area puts diners among plants and trees, and the inside in a rustic haven, making for a special dining experience wherever they sit – one that would make leaving here sans photos practically a crime. Home-made burgers, cakes, coffee and fruit juices are among the food items served.

N16 Café (Sabak Bernam)
This mini café is literally surrounded by a paddy field, and if that isn’t interesting enough, it is actually an old-school public bus that has been converted into its present state! The café whips up a wide variety of food, such as spaghetti, Korean fried chicken, cakes and drinks. Photos of the unconventional café ‘parked’ on a swathe of lush paddy plantation alone make up for the two-hour trip from Shah Alam.

Block Café (Gombak)
With a stylish modern décor, Block Café has become a haunt for those seeking a spot to unwind with friends while sneaking in a few shots for the ‘Gram. Asian, Western and fusion meals dot the menu, with one item, the Ayam Penyet (Javanese ‘smashed’ fried chicken), particularly endorsed by customers. The café can hold up to 50 pax for private events as well.

Backstreet Café (Banting)
Sporting a ‘hipster’ vibe, the Instagrammable Backstreet Café is located in Kuala Langat and is adorned with creative hand-made pieces of art and industrial elements such as a bare concrete floor and exposed brick walls. The menu and some graffiti are done in chalk on blackboards covering portions of said brick walls. Coming out of the kitchen are a variety of grub, including pizza, burgers, fries as well as coffees.

Denali & Pinnacles Café (Bangi)
The bohemian-themed Denali & Pinnacles Café is located in Bangi, and has indoor and outdoor spaces. The café itself is on the second floor of the building, allowing customers to look out and take in the scenery. The décor is equally reminiscent of both a comfy home and a somewhat upmarket kopitiam, giving this place more than enough reasons to appear on an IG feed.

Provisions Café (Damansara Jaya)
Open from 8am to 6pm, Provisions Café makes its bread products fresh daily. Sandwiches, toast, sourdough and others goodies are available as soon as the ‘open’ sign is displayed on the door. Simple modern styling dominate the interior design, while the orange shop front, with its quirky bench, is a popular area to flaunt OOTDs.

Tiny Baker In Pink Café (Kota Damansara)
Awash with peculiar design details, this Korean-style café is perfect for those looking for something different to add to their camera roll. A number of vintage-looking pipes sprout from a wall, with sprigs hanging off them. On another section, creamy sheets of cloth plays a decorative role. It’s a mix of designs that doesn’t have to work hard to catch the eye. This café also accommodates birthday parties and private events.

Tujoh Café (Petaling Jaya)
Tujoh Café, located in Section 17, Petaling Jaya, is a place almost tailor-made to be photographed. The base industrial architecture is complemented by numerous plants, including some in a built-in concrete trough along one wall. At the centre is another trough of sorts that housed two lanky trees stretching several feet towards the skylight overhead.

Bukku Café (Klang)
Japanese for ‘book’, Bukku Café displays its share of books on bookshelves. Its insides takes after Japanese designs with its simple, yet aesthetically pleasing lines. There is also an outdoor section for added seating options. While the setup itself is enough reason for photo-taking, the lens should be aimed at the café’s more popular food items too, such as the Salted Egg Croissant, Almond Tiramisu and Burnt Cheesecake.

Tuah Café (Bangi)
Known for its food, particularly the Trip Platter which comprises buffalo wings, beef meatball and fries, this laidback café also has customers who adore its various flavours of Frappuccino such as Cookies & Cream and Black Forest. The dark interior, with wooden furniture to contrast, exudes an atmosphere that is sure to look great in photos.
