4 October 2017:
Over 600 colourful lanterns given out to the public and children in this brightly lit event!
In celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festival, Sunway Putra Mall organised a festive lantern parade to bring some cheer to single mothers and children from 11 charitable homes under the care of Touching Lives Club Kuala Lumpur & Selangor (TLC).
The parade flagged off at the main entrance led by a Dragon Troupe, Moon Fairies and mascots from Cold Storage and Mr DIY, and saw the public carrying a variety of lanterns of all shapes and colours.
Traditionally the Mid-Autumn Festival celebrates a successful harvest, with family gathered together to offer various offerings to the heavens. Today, the festival is a time for mooncakes, family reunions and lantern exhibitions.
“This is a reunion that expresses happiness and joy. We love to encourage our shoppers to get in touch with different festive and culture,” said Sunway Putra Mall General Manager Phang Sau Lian.
To that end, Sunway Putra created the Tallest Lantern Made of Recycled Fabrics, as certified by the Malaysia Book of Records. Standing over 10.51 metres tall with a width of 3.98 metres, the lantern will be displayed at the Main Concourse until 31 October 2017. The exterior design of the lantern was inspired by patchwork motifs that resembles Malaysia’s multicultural community, while the interior is filled with hundreds of warm-coloured lanterns.
