Sunway in KL

With three of the world’s largest malls and two consecutive number 4 rankings in CNN Travel’s list of the world’s 12 best shopping cities, Kuala Lumpur is a shopper’s haven – and Sunway Group plans to cement that status with its first foray into the capital city.

Two key developments – Sunway Putra Mall and Sunway Velocity Mall – make up the fourth and fifth mega retail projects in the Sunway portfolio, joining the world-famous Sunway Pyramid and Sunway Giza Mall in Selangor as well as Sunway Carnival further afield in Penang.

“We are certainly excited in making our entry into Kuala Lumpur as we believe we are able to deliver essentially a whole new experience under the Sunway brand to KLites,” said HC Chan, CEO of Sunway Shopping Malls and Theme Parks.

Strategically located just opposite the Putra World Trade Centre within the ‘Diamond Triangle’, Sunway Putra Mall is seamlessly integrated with a hotel and office tower for pedestrian convenience and comfort. Accessibility is also no concern with it being within 15 minutes’ drive from most parts of Kuala Lumpur, as well as public transportation facilities from KTM, LRT and Hentian Putra bus stations.

The fiery-hued exterior houses an equally vibrant interior that fully embraces the ‘retailtainment’ concept, with eight floors that showcase everything from international fashion and food and beverage down to IT products and everyday necessities. A cinema, fitness centre, karaoke lounge and an amusement centre are planned for the uppermost levels for maximum fun.

Sunway Putra Mall is a redevelopment of pre-existing complex The Mall, which was opened in 1987 by then Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and was once the largest shopping centre in the country.

Visitors preparing to leave their mark in The Brick Project

As a ‘welcome back’ gesture to those with nostalgic memories of the former mall, Sunway Putra Mall invited its neighbours and surrounding residents to participate in ‘The Brick Project’, an exclusive initiative that allowed the visitors to engrave their wishes and remarks ‘in stone’ as a way of remembering the past and welcoming the future.

Heartfelt messages that will stand the test of time and build the foundation for the new mall

The second development of Sunway Velocity Mall is situated 3.8km from the heart of Kuala Lumpur in the town of Cheras and enjoys great connectivity in the form of various highways, LRT and eventual MRT linkage.

Spanning 23 acres of land, the brand new mall boasts seven floors of retail space that will play host to popular retail, leisure and entertainment outlets, each carefully selected to convey a particular concept or overall style. Much like Sunway Pyramid, Sunway Velocity Mall is also expected to have an ‘Asian Avenue’ which promotes Asian products and services.

It is part of the Sunway Velocity master development, which integrates five key components – V Retail, V Office, V Residence, V Boulevard and V Garden – all designed for maximum interconnectivity and a transformative living experience in the south of Kuala Lumpur.

Sunny days are ahead for the future of retail in Kuala Lumpur!
