19 May 2017:
The longest operational mall in the Golden Triangle marks a milestone.
Sungei Wang holds a special place in KL’s retail landscape, having been one of the pioneering malls that helped shape the scene into what it is today. This year marks its 40th anniversary, and to celebrate the landmark, the New Evolution of Sungei Wang has been announced, pushing the mall into the 21st century.
The launch was officiated by Minister of Tourism and Culture Dato’ Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz, together with Chairman of Sungei Wang Plaza Management Corporation Ng Yih Chen.
A new logo leads the evolution, retaining the spirit of Sungei Wang’s legacy while reflecting the transformation into a more contemporary hub. A series of legacy and contemporary icons have also been installed to mark the various achievements of the mall throughout the years.
“We want to reach out to the new and younger market and at the same time not forget our loyal and regular customers,” said Yih Chen.
The mall will also see physical makeovers in key areas including the entrances, which are set to be ready with the opening of the new MRT station situated 500 metres away. Together with the existing Monorail station, Sungei Wang will become one of the most accessible and connected malls via rail transport in the Klang Valley.
Culture Street @ Sungei Wang
In line with the goal to make the new Sungei Wang as tourist friendly as possible, several new concepts have been introduced – one such being the Culture Street @ Sungei Wang.
Together with the revamped entrance along Jalan Sultan Ismail, Culture Street will showcase authentic handicraft souvenirs from Malaysia, food products, activities, occasional arts workshops and a Tourist Customer Service Counter for any queries.
Connected to Culture Street will also be a Hop-On Hop-Off Bus Stop, ticketing kiosks and an info counter – the ideal place to start a sight-seeing tour through Kuala Lumpur.
A new Tourist Privilege Card will also be introduced, free for international tourists, and packed with a host of freebies and discounts. The card entitles holders to discounts at over 40 selected shops within Sungei Wang, as well as various hotels in KL.
Foodzania and Blastacars
Hungry shoppers need only head to Level 3 where the new Foodzania is located. Comprised of food trucks, kioks and food court, Foodzania offers a wide variety of cuisine in the confines of a clean and comfortable environment.
Those looking to get their pulses racing should check out Blastacars, a kart drifting circuit situated on Level 5 of the mall. While you’re waiting for your turn on the karts, engage in some virtual reality, test your reaction time on the race simulators or take aim at the nerf archery shooting range.
Sungei Wang has enjoyed a long history of hosting meet-and-greet sessions for some of the biggest stars in the region, and this tradition will continue. Celebrities including Jay Chou, iKon, Rucco Chan, Eric Chou and Eve Ai have all held massive events in the mall, giving fans a chance to get close with their favourite idols, while taking part in on-ground activities and contests organised by the mall.
