Surrounding this 420-footlong main attraction is a cluster of carnival activities, including live music and carnival games such as the Rodeo Bull, Dunking Game, Bungee Run and Gladiator Joust. There is no shortage of grub either with over 15 food trucks.
“We heard what our fans had to say and we are now extending the sliding days from only one weekend to a month-long event. We want everyone to have the opportunity to experience the slide at least once in their lives,” said Leong Delon, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Monkey Theory Sdn Bhd. “Put on your sunscreens, grab your best summer outfit and speed down this gigantic slip n’ slide for a fun family day in the sun!”
Refreshingly, the event is also an environmentally and socially responsible one. The water used is filtered and recycled to avoid wastage, safety is prioritised in all aspects, and it even supports noble causes such as The National Kidney Foundation and Wahoo Event’s Shark Savers campaign.
Alone, in a group, headfirst, feet-first, sideways, on your belly or otherwise; no matter how you slide, there is hardly a cooler way to beat the sweltering weather!
It started off as a shared reverie among three friends, T.R. Gourley, John Malfatto and David Wulf – a dream to relive the magical childhood memories of dousing the summer heat by zooming down a soaking-wet slip n’ slide. It was an idea that didn’t evaporate into nothingness, as they actually turned their proverbial castle in the sky into long bright strips of vinyl on the ground!
This is how Slide The City came into being in The States back in 2013, not as a backyard attraction, but as a large-scale event that takes over a section of asphalt, bringing glee to throngs of folks. It spread quickly to other parts of the globe that called out for its crisp reprieve; Columbia, Canada, United Kingdom, Korea, Japan, Brunei, Hong Kong, Macau, China and Taiwan among them.
With the tropical sun a near constant figure in the Malaysian sky, it only made sense that this slick phenomenon headed our way. Happily, in December 2015 it did, courtesy of local organiser Monkey Theory Sdn Bhd. Since then, it has made its way across Malaysia, stopping by Penang, Melaka, Kuantan, Johor Bahru and other states. This year, a bigger and better event is promised.
