The undisputed shotput king of Malaysia, Muhammad Ziyad Zolkefli is the current world record holder in his category (T20) of the track and field event. When he hurled the shot a record breaking 16.84 metres at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio, he made history with Mohamad Ridzuan Mohamad Puzi – the two becoming the first Paralympic athletes to win gold medals at the prestigious event. He also smashed the old world record to take over the top global top spot.

After making his debut at the 2012 Paralympic Games in London and winning a respectable bronze medal there, he went on to win golds at the World Athletics Championships in 2013 and ASEAN Para Games in 2014. Most recently, Ziyad picked up the gold at the 2017 World Para Athletics Championships in London, smashing his old record for a distance of 17.29 metres.

Ziyad has risen to great heights and is a far cry from his days as a humble noodle stall operator in Kuala Lumpur, dominating the sport of shotput. As one of Malaysia’s true gold-getters, all eyes will be on him as he steps into the circle.
