Massive discounts on top international brands
The Mega Sale Carnival Luxury Shopping Experience is Tourism Malaysia’s initiative to attract more high-end shoppers to Kuala Lumpur.
“Over the years, there has been a big development in the retail sector that’s created a positive impact on tourism,” explained Ministry of Tourism and Culture Secretary-General, Datuk Hj. Ab. Ghaffar B. A. Thambi at the launching ceremony.
More and more, tourists are choosing their travel destinations based on where they can shop. There are many famous shopping malls and districts in the world like London’s Oxford Street, the Dubai Mall in the UAE, and the Avenue des Champ Elysees in Paris.
“In 2015, shopping become the main tourist expenditure at 31.3%, overtaking the share for spending on accommodation. We also found that 43% of this expenditure was on luxury items like watches and jewellery. This gives an indication of the growth and potential of luxury tourism, with markets in Asia leading the way as high retail spenders,” added Datuk Ghaffar.
As shopping and traveling blends together in an interesting way, it presents a unique opportunity for Kuala Lumpur to attract a new market of luxury shopper tourists.
That’s why for this luxury shopping campaign, Tourism Malaysia has partnered with The Melium Group – one of the country’s biggest retail groups, which offers an extensive range of international brands including Roger Vivier, TOD’s, Hackett London, Max Mara, MCM, Stuart Weitzman, Emilio Pucci, Aigner, Givenchy and Lanvin, most of which are located within Pavilion KL.
Shoppers can enjoy end-of-season sales for all these brands from now until August, which is especially alluring as most international brand sales in Europe start late July or early August.
