Malaysia Hosts World Amateur Golf Championship

Coming to Malaysia is the prestigious World Amateur Golf Championship (WAGC), hosting some 800 amateur golfers from 47 countries. 

“This year, it is our pleasure to inform you that Malaysia has been awarded the right to host the 2017 World Amateur Golfers Championship World from 18 to 25 November 2017,” said YBhg Tan Sri Asmat Kamaludin. Perodua has been the title sponsor since 2012 for the local chapter and the participation of the Malaysian team abroad.

This world class championship will give amateur golfers the opportunity to showcase their talents, as national teams from across the globe challenge each other for the World Championship title. This tournament is played as a 5-person team as well as individually with 5 handicap flights.

Delta Trend Golf & Leisure Holidays Sdn Bhd (DTGLH) continues to be responsible for promoting and managing a series of qualifying rounds throughout the nation before identifying the Champions from five respective handicap categories.

DTGLH acquired the rights to host the Championship from governing body for this event, WGC Ltd through an agreement to host the tournament from 2012 till 2020. Malaysia was awarded the right to host the World Amateur Golfers Championship World Final that will take place the 18th to 25th of November 2017. This achievement has received the support of the Prime Minister, Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

To successfully host this event, covering expenses like logistics, DTGLH would require sponsorships which would cost approximately RM10 million. Perodua has been very involved and a title sponsor since 2012 for the local chapter and participation of Malaysian team abroad. Perodua believes that golf like any other sports has a positive contribution to society as it promotes self-improvement.
