ASEAN Para Games KL2017: Leap To The Top

Abdul Latif Romlay
Sport: Long jump T20
Born: 31 March 1997
Gold – 2017 World Para Athletics Championships; Gold – 2016 Paralympic Games; Gold – 2014 ASEAN Para Games; Gold – 2013 IPC Athletics World Championships; Bronze – 2015 IPC Athletics World Championships; Bronze – 2014 Paralympic Games.

Few athletes can lay claim to breaking a world record three times in one day – Abdul Latif Romlay is one of those few. He did so at the 2016 Paralympic Games, and in the process earned Malaysia’s third gold medal in those games. For this amazing feat, Latiff was the first paraathlete to be named Best Sportsman of the Year (2016) in over 50 years.

At this year’s ASEAN Para Games, Latiff will be looking to improve on his 7.66-metre world-record distance – something he may well do with the home ground and home crowd advantage fuelling him on. At any rate, expect this man to claim a place on the podium this month as one of the champions from the athletics camp.
